The Zumba craze has been buzzing for a while and classes are popping up all over the place. Last week I finally took a Zumba dance fitness class for the first time. I know, I know – where have I been? Well, I'm not sure, but I'll tell you where I'm going…Back to Zumba.
When class started off, I thought “Wow, is that it?” The beginning just seemed a little slow, but I soon found out, it kicks into high gear and it rocks! We were doing a mix of basic moves in latin dance and some basic exercise that you'd find in any workout class. But, here's the kicker…the music was awesome! Listening to and moving to Samba, Salsa, Merengue music made it so much easier than your average workout.
Most fitness classes are run without stopping, so one thing that was unique about this class is that between each song you had a second (and I mean only a second) to grab a sip of water and maybe wipe your brow (yes, definitely perspiring). As brief as it was that little mini break felt so good.
I was with a friend who asked me to join her and the class was even more fun because she was having such a great time. So, we did a few high fives, smiled, danced, and engaged in a healthy activity.
Grab a bottle of water and maybe a buddy and give your local Zumba class a try.
