Why You Must Pick One Thing to Grow Your Email List

Most Recent Musings

Important UPDATE:

THIS very post was in draft mode while Facebook and Instagram were both down for an entire day. I was working on putting the finishing touches on it and to schedule it to publish the following week. With this outage of very popular social networks, we have another very clear reminder and a really good reason as to building your email list and having this intimate and close touch point with your subscribers….

And now, back to our regularly scheduled blog post 🙂

I’m sure you’ve heard a few of these sayings flying around the web – The money is in the list… you can earn huge profits with a tiny list… the highest ROI in business is in email marketing.

There  are tons of trainings hyping up the benefits of why you would want to pick one thing to focus on and grow your email list and there is a great deal of truth to these. In 2018 the return on investment for email marketing was $38 for each $1 invested. It has also been shown that for each person on your list the expected return on investment is $1 per month per subscriber. If that excites you, I get it! It is very common for entrepreneurs to get revved up about the potential, dig in to get rolling, and then —- get stuck~!

Here’s a common scenario:

You get on that crazy wheel and as you start seeing the many pieces involved, you get overwhelmed, you see all the decisions to be made and you are not sure which software, which process and why, and all this makes you become overwhelmed, discouraged, and often you end up walking away feeling defeated and deflated. Does any of this sound familiar?

So, with this, my first of the PICK ONE THING CAMPAIGN TOPICS we will laser in so you can focus on just one thing and begin to grow your email List.

When you invest your energy into your email list, what you are actually investing in is relationships. You are building relationships with people who may become part of your business for years and years to come. As you nurture these relationships by sharing value, education, stories, and support, you’re then in a place where you can make valuable offers that your subscribers are looking for and ultimately seeing them become paying customers.

The magic of doing one thing.

When you focus solely on growing your email list, you are putting processes in place that will bring in huge results for your business over time.

Email marketing has been proven to work time and time again, so investing the time needed to build a solid list is a worth while effort. It doesn’t take a lot of time to create your first series of emails and the beauty of email marketing is that it takes the same amount of time to create and send one email as it does to send 500 emails.

By automating the process, you will save time, reach a larger audience, and build relationships with your subscribers.

Make it a Priority.

Whether you’re launching a new business or looking to grow your current one, a high-quality, relevant email list will help you achieve your goals.

This might feel impossible when you have a huge list of high priority tasks in your business, but I’ll be showing you how to put automated systems in place to attract potential clients on a consistent basis, to build your email list, to cultivate relationships with the people on your list, and learn how to provide the value they are seeking in education, information, products, programs and services.

Strategy is key to get the results you desire.

Think strategically about where you want your business to go and put a plan in place. For an email list building system, you'll need to take these steps. I'll be sharing more details about each of these steps in the upcoming Pick One Thing trainings. So, be sure to check out the series.

  • Begin by identifying who your ideal customer is.
  • Create an enticing free offer for her. What does she need/want?
  • Choose an Email Service Provider.
  • Create an Optin Page so you can use that free offer to invite (aka use as an ethical bribe) people to join your email list.
  • Automate your messages so you can build relationships by providing value and relevant information to the people who show interest by joining your list.
  • Periodically make offers directly to your customers on your email list and convert them to buying customers.

How are you going to make growing your email list a priority?

Avoid getting caught up in trying to do too many things at once, and focus solely on building your email list for now. Email marketing is a great way for you to stand out to your audience when you’re starting a business or trying to grow an existing one.

Your subscribers are eager to receive your emails, and over time they will begin to see you as an expert in your field. Put time and energy into growing your list, and it will reap endless benefits for your business.

We're getting started with the first step right now. YAY! Are you ready?…

Identify your ideal client

When working on your company brand and client avatar you'll want to get deep into a full understanding of who that person is, how they live, what they enjoy and how you can service them. I asked Branding and Marketing Expert Jeanine Polozzi of Biz in Bloom to give you a little head start on how to get that rolling. Jeanine says,,,

“Your clients are your source of inspiration when it comes to your product and service offerings, your muse if you will. You can start by categorizing your clients as inevitably you offer more than one product or service that can solve a problem for them.

The following strategies are tried and true:

Demographics – Does your business serve men? Women? Families? What stage or lifecycle are they in? Are they looking to retire? Start a family?

Psychographics – this is my favorite because often our clients come from varying backgrounds but there is one thing that they have in common, there is one reason they are seeking the solutions you provide. Are they creative?  Are they spiritual? What is their belief about themselves and how they operate in the world?

Benefit – lastly, what is the solution you are providing to them?

By creating a client avatar, you are going to learn what is important to them and how your business can best serve them.”

I love this advice from Jeanine and I hope it helps you with your overall client avatar.

But, for now, for this exercise, I want to you focus on one project, service, product, or program or have to offer. Ask yourself, “who will benefit from this for this ONE offer?” We’re not focusing on your entire business right now. Let’s get super niched down and create a list for one specific group of your client / customer base.

And, to move forward and keep this on track for this post, when you are thinking about your ideal client, remember, we are laser focused on who it is who will benefit from this from this ONE PROJECT / SERVICE you offer.

Try This Now: Think of speaking directly to one person.

Imagine that you are having a real, live conversation with an ideal client. The phone just rand and you are hearing them share the stress and worry about a specific problem.

What are you saying?

How are you able to alleviate their worry and stress?

How did you solve this one issue or problem they called about?

THAT is what I want you to focus on for the next step, the giveaway.

In the next post we are going to talk about

how to create a freebie / giveaway / ethical bribe

It has many names, known and referred to as an ethical bribe, a lead magnet, a trip wire, a fremium, a giveaway, a freebie; these are all ways of saying the same thing. Essentially, what you are going to create is something of massive value that you can provide to your audience as an incentive for them to share their email with you. We spoke earlier about the importance of this, and the ROI of your email investments. So, putting a little heart into making an amazing give away is well worth the time and effort.

and then we're getting into

how to create an optin form – even if you don't have a website!

Come back and check those out in the coming weeks!

I'd love to hear from you, for real. Comment below, have you started list building and engaging with your subscribers, yet?

These PICK ONE THING Training Series trainings are geared to help you laser focus and prioritize so you can make progress and check things off your list.
